DBWI: TV Evangelist Elvis Presley Dies

So I've been watching the news coverage of Elvis "Reverend" Presley's death and some commentators have been speculating what would have happened if he had stuck with a musical career instead of becoming a born-again Christian in the Seventies. I think he'd be a lot like the late Johnny Cash myself...

I also have to say that while I didn't agree with all of his politics, he was a heck of a lot more entertaining than Billy Graham or Jerry Falwell. My Mom used to watch his shows back in the Eighties.

Ive gotta say, he was smart. He never played the holier-than-thou type, and since everybody remembered his reputation from before he went born again, he escaped the kinds of scandals that brought down Jim Bakker and those guys.

There were the unsubstantiated rumors of drug abuse; and questions about his relationship with gospel singer Janis Bennett
(after he reportedly got into a fistfight with her husband, guitarist Bill Bennett).

But yeah, I think the only legitimate issue that most opponents had with The King of Kings Ministries(tm) was Presley's "Takin' Care of Business" brand of prosperity theology.

*Snort* The guy was a hunk of burnin' lard. Hip shakin' for the Lord?

Yea, all those housefraus fainting because of the "Holy Ghost"...more like the ghost in his leotards. At least Graham has some dignity.
