DBWI: Toyota never bought out Ford?

What if the Japanese car company Toyota had never bought out the Ford brand? How would this have changed the evolution of the Automotive industry? Would Hybrid F-150s still be the world's best selling truck? What about the Toyota-Ford Corrola? Would the Corrola still be the best selling car under Toyota alone? How would the car itself be different without all those Ford parts under the hood?

Well it's likely wouldn't have collapsed. In 2002 Toyota was at its peak and Ford was in the dumps. By the time of the crisis both were in tatters. Corporate hubris- and if you think the layoffs were bad here, just go to Japan. Have you seen those pictures of the empty Toyota City? Eerie.

OCC: In order to keed this thread from becoming a muddled mess, please specify -What year Toyota took over the Ford brand?
-When you say brand, do you mean the intact company or did the company go bankrupt and Toyota bought the name brand and remaining assets?
-Why didn't another US automaker take over Ford (company, name brand, assets)?

OOC: Umm. This doesn't make any sense. It was stated in the OP that the F-150 and Corolla are the top selling vehicles within their respective sectors Globally. That means large income from them. For them to collapse while effectively being On Top would require Criminally Negligent Financial Management. And this isn't something they're particularly well known for.
