DBWI Tories win the 1978 election

If the Conservatives had won the election in October 1978 -and it was close- their leader would have been the first woman PM. How would that have gone?

She was a loony-right nonentity. Her Red Tory cabinet would have chewed her up, spit her out, and installed Whitelaw within a year. Of course, that may mean we'd never have seen the Whitelaw and Hurd Governments. Maybe the constant strikes would have continued, since there would be no government implementing the West German plan. Connolly would have lost an important ally in Willie, of course.

No Scottish devolution, or at least it's delayed. Without the Assembly, the likes of Donald Dewar and John Smith could have risen to national prominence instead. But it was almost inevitable by then-Thatcher's opposition is one of the reasons they lost in OTL.
