DBWI:Titanic sinks on maiden voyage

The Titanic had an uneventful maiden voyage and survived into the Great War. It was struck by a German U-Boat while carrying weapons but survived. The British retired her shortly after the incident. What if the Titanic had randomly hit an iceberg several years earlier?

Some other ship(s) cruising along would've rescued the passengers. It would've been an important event in the time, but I doubt it would've been as important compared to OTL's U-Boat attack and its retiring. Historians might remember it, but most people wouldn't.

Not to mention, I'm skeptical of the ability of an iceberg to sink the Titanic. If a U-Boat can't sink it, how can an iceberg?

With the coal strike going on at that time and fewer ships at sea, the results COULD have been disastrous. Though I struggle to see how such a large liner with such an advanced design could ever sink fast enough that no rescue ships could reach her in time.

Perhaps the deficiency in safety regulations would have been exposed earlier.
Then 809 people wouldn't have died when the Gigantic caught fire. The fire started at 3AM near the wireless room due to short in the wiring in the first class area. The glue used to secure the wallpaper and carpeting in the first and second class areas of the ship burnt easily and contributed to the rapid spread of the fire.
Ironically the steerage class and crew areas weren't as heavly damaged.
That disaster led to the major upgrades of fire regulations on passenger ships.

Gigantic was a rumored name for the final Olympic-class ship which was actually named Britannic. A rumour was started that White Star Line changed the name of the ship to avoid appearing arrogant after the loss of Titanic. In truth, White Star and Harland and Wolff records show she was intended to be named Britannic since 1911.

Huh. Was this one of the Dreadnoughts? Never heard of it.
