DBWI: Thoughts on "The Death of Napoleon?"

"The Death of Napoleon" was definitely one of my favorite movies of the year. It's a satirical history film, dealing with the power struggle for the regency of the French Empire following the death of Napoleon I in 1827. It pokes fun at figures such as Talleyrand, Marshall Davout, the Empress Marie Louise, and Fouche. It's quite controversial, being banned by the Imperial French Ministry of Security for subversion. So, thoughts on the film?

The movie was quite funny and exciting, if historically inaccurate.
Yeah, they didn't really accurately portray the relationship between France and Russia at the time; it was as if they were already enemies when historically relations didn't break down until the Egyptian Crisis.

Died in 1820

So are these two present in, shall we say, "spirit"? :winkytongue:

@OOC: regency for Napoleon II, really? The King of Rome was born in 1811 and so he will need no regency being already 16 years old (in France majority for Kings was between 14 and 16 and I can not really think Napoleon putting it later than 15/16 for his son) maybe the power struggle will be for being the power behind the throne and influencing the early rule of the new King?

And the portrayal of Napoleon II's relationship with his half sister Lucia as incestuous is just plain wrong. I mean, come on, Emperor Napoleon II did end up giving very generous allowance to his half-sister borne of Napoleon's first wife Josephine, but there is no motivation beyond ensuring his kin being taken care off.

Sure, Lucia Napoleon did end up pregnant without having a husband, but that doesn't meant Napoleon II is the culprit. That was just wild imagination of George RR Martin, the filmaker and scriptwriter.

Typicale anglophone propaganda.

Honestly I don't give a fuck if Steven the Admin bans me for this, but fuck all you english pig dogs.

Je concorde! I have had quite enough of these smug island pricks besmirching the good name of our first emperor.

I mean, given that it's a movie from the Free States of America I don't see how it's a case of Perifidous Albion.
The FSA has been a british puppet ever since the brits helped them conquer the CSA during the Four Brothers' war. They're basically a commonwealth nation, at this point.
