DBWI: There really was one shooter

Even 58 years and three generations later, John F. Kennedy's assassination at the hands of Lee Oswald, George de Mohrenschildt, and Paul Gregory still looms large among americans, with a common conspiracy theory being only Oswald was responsible for the assassination, which evidence has time and time disproved. What if Lee really was the only one who had done it?

Oswald was just the patsy. He wouldn't have even been there if not as part of Nixon's revenge scheme.

Well, Oswald alone definetly fails. He was completely unhinged and insane. He wouldn't get close enough to actually assisnate the president and would probably not get further than assaulting a police officer.

Oswald was not a good enough shot to hit a moving vehicle.
And with that Italian Rifle he had, at best , he could get off one or two shots .
He not going to be able to do the 7 hits that the three did.
At best, Oswald would hit the President Car no more then once, and that if he really lucky .

Yeah, Oswald was the designated fall guy while the other two would made their escape and report back to Nixon.

Thankfully, their escape plan was botched due to faulty car engine, and Gregory finally croaked about how this was Nixon's plan, which led to the dramatic capture, trial, and eventual execution pf the criminal ex-Vice President.

...

Maybe if they didn't ended up with faulty car engine, the two will escape and Nixon would be practically goes unscathed. Who knows what could happen from there, the criminal was quite ambitious. Perhaps we could ends up with President Nixon somehow?

Oh come on, I know the Nixon presidency dystopia TL is a popular genre, but if you want to get that result you're going to have to have him win in 1960. Even if the other two besides Oswald escape, Nixon isn't gonna just let it stay hidden. He only got convicted thanks to the meticulous records he kept of the plans for the assassination. If his guys hadn't ratted him he would have been exposed for it if he got the nomination and even assuming he didn't he most likely would try something stupid like whack his opponent in the primary/general.

So, yeah, your thoughts on how the Republicans were discredited by the fact the assassination of JFK was just the beginning of a failed Nixon-led coup with several right-wing generals like Thomas Power (even if he was less "right-wing" and more "unhinged") and Edwin Walker with him in his failed coup?

It certainly did a lot to normalize violence in American politics. Johnson wouldn't have been able to do half of what he did without that. Prior to that it was unimaginable that the US would do something like Speedy Express to an enemy nation, let alone to its own nation.

Without the US being so mired with political violence and internal disorder NATO wouldn't have had to turn to Britain and a lesser extent France for leadership allowing them to recover their prestige after the Suez debacle.
