DBWI: The USA intervened

Hi,
Afghanistan today is a safe and stable, even somewhat prospering (due to individual and "exotic" tourism), nation. This stability and these human rights (at least to some extent) were ensured by our comrades Nur Mohammad Taraki and Babrak Karmal.
But we had to fight a war fourty years ago. Just imagine what would have happened if this imperialist hawk Ragan or what he was called would have intervened, on the side of ultra-reactionary Islamists!

Can you imagine?

Being locked away or sent to reeducation camps for the public display of one's religious belief is not really what I call adherence to human rights.

Not even the Soviets have ever been so fervent, so obsessed about suppressing religion as the Afghans are today!

Indeed, in fact, that's why the anti-communist insurgency is still going on, even if it has quieted in the past couple of years, which is perhaps why the OP put "safe and stable" in his post.
