DBWI: The US takes over the Philippines instead of Cuba

The immediate aftermath of Spanish-American War saw the US at a crossroads in terms of which colony it desired to take over the most. As well all know, it would be Cuba that was selected over the Philippines by virtue of being closer and therefore easy to control.

But what if the Philippines got the American rule instead? Instead of simply being a client state of the US?

That is because Bonifacio won not Aguinaldo and the Spanish only ceded Luzon to the Americans not Visayas and Mindanao which remained Spanish for longer.

Then IIRC, Spain and the Netherlands joined the Central Powers and lost those places along with the Southern half of Borneo and some East Indies islands to Japan.

Yeah, kind off and Bonifacio and his men suppressed the Spanish influence and Catholicism and the American held Philippines is now Protestant.

Cuba is one of the most influential, diverse and economically powerful states in the Union.

A United States without Cuba just seems like a weird thought to me.

I can’t imagine the Philippines would become a state like Cuba being so far away from the main Laing of North America.

Hell could you imagine it being an actual colony rather than a puppet regime and then a Genocidal communist regime like OTL?
