De Gaulle opposed entry in the 60's due to the fear Britain was a backdoor for American influence. Without such, given his and Macmillan's personal relationship, he would have let Britain join earlier. So I imagine that had Macmillan been more willing to stand up to the Americans, de Gaulle would have (reluctantly) let Britain in.There is a reason Charles DeGaulle was so violently opposed to this...
