As we all know, the Malayan Federation, also known as Malaya, is a large state centered on the Malay Archipelago, Formosa, New Guinea, and the Malay Peninsula. After the Spanish colonized the Filipinas in the 16th century, the wealth of the area convinced them to expand the Spanish East Indies. By the outbreak of the collapse of the Spanish Empire in the 19th century, Borneo, Filipinas, Sumatra, and Java were under Spanish control. These territories soon united, and embarked on a policy of Malay Unification aided by a large modernization and westernization program, which led to them surpassing the Japanese as being the rising star of Asia
Malay's unprecedented victory over the Qing Empire during the Straits War solidified their newfound power along with possession of Taiwan. This, however, has led them to have an antagonistic relationship with the United States, who was involved in the area for commercial interests. The ensuring Sino-American alliance caused great concern for the government in Singapore, which in turn led to them forming an alliance with the British and Japanese.
Without the Malayan Federation, how would Asian, and inevitably, world history play out?
