DBWI The soviet union doesn't collapse after world war 2

The second world war caught the soviet union by surprise, with several rounds of bad luck, a nasty famine and a whole lot of death, but they fought hard and got up to the gates of berlin, the deals were signed and it was thought that the soviet union would be one of the big players on the world stage.

but it turned out that strength was illusionary, that the blood and treasure they had spent was too much and the strain caused the country to collapse, and the government to fall.

But what if the soviet union had held on what would our world look like today?

A Russia that stays Communist could cause a lot of trouble and be a major competitor to the U.S. globally. The United States really benefitted from the collapse of the USSR. Imagine how much the U.S. would have had to spend on defense just to keep up with them, plus Nationalist China. Luckily China is the only competing superpower the U.S. has to face. What else could have motivated NASA to fulfill President Reagan's goal of a manned mission to Mars by 1990?

Even if Russia had held together under a different government it would have been a major competitor. The closest thing you have today is the Russian Republic, which controls most of the country west of the Urals. Ever since Kerensky returned from exile to take over as president, they have been slowly recapturing territory from the warlords. But retaking Siberia from China is a different story.

Would we have as many soviet fanboys as we have now?

Soviet Russia has this mystic as a nation that gave every thing to defeat the nazi's and broke themselves in the process.
Take away the collapse right after the biggest victory and do they have that still?

There might have been a sort of "Space Race" between the US and USSR. The extra competition between the two countries would have led to a lot of space exploration and scientific and technological advancement. We might have even seen a moon base in the 1970s instead of the 1980s.

Fascism would probably be much more unnacceptable..

Fascists ALWAYS have the "excuse" that true fight was against Communism and that the collapse of the Soviet Union justified the extraordinary measures....

OOC: If the Nazis cause enough damage to cause the collapse of the Soviet Union that would be used by modern Fascists. Even in OTL Nazis try to convince people that the "Wehrmacht was just fighting the true enemy in the East".
