DBWI: The Room not a success

As you all remember, back in 2003, the landmark romantic-drama, The Room, went from being an unknown independent film to being a big winner at the Box Office, grossing $150 million worldwide, whilst obtaining six Oscars (including Best Picture and Best Actor for Tommy Wiseau). Tell me, what would happen if The Room was not a success?

Dude you forgot to mention the fact it got 150 million dollars worldwide in one day. To this day it's still the highest grossing film of all time. I don't know how it could't be a success with Tommy's awesome performance on the rooftop when he say "Oh hi mark" is honestly one of the best parts

The story of the friendship between Tommy Wiseau and Greg Sestero is also awesome about this film. Have you seen the new James Franco film about how nobody believed in Wiseau but Sestero?

Hard to imagine since The Room was an absolutely amazing film. Would have just been forgotten about pretty quickly I think.

Yeah, if it turned out badly, I don't think it would've been noticed all that much, let alone remembered. For every Plan 9 from Outer Space, there are countless bad movies that appear with no fanfare and are swiftly forgotten.

One thing's for sure: hardly anybody would've even heard the name "Tommy Wiseau".

Well, I wouldn't say that. The man is a financial genius. Do you know how much money he has? Even if he had turned out to be a shit filmmaker, there would for sure be plenty of buzz about his financial skills.

Shouldn’t such a thread be in ASB? The Room not being a success is as likely as Sealion being one. Roger Ebert’s praise for the movie was so long and enthusiastic it became embarassing in the end.

If someone could convince Wiseau to only be the lead and not direct the movie then perhaps it could be bodged, but any part of the movie graced by the Wiseau genius is bound to be stellar.

If it failed they may never have made the awful sequel where Vampire Johnny seeks revenge against Werewolf Mark though...

Don't you dare dissing the movie that successfully slaughtered all this Twilight craze in one shot. I still say Wiseau deserves a Nobel for it. Litterature or Peace, either or both.

My mind is blown, really. To think that movie did better than Titanic. When you think about it, Titanic love story is no better than The room love triangle. so The room deserved its success, after all.
