…and Kim Jong Un, the grandson of the nation’s founder, has been re-elected to the office of Premier.

In this latest election he received ~60% of the vote; the nationalist candidate from the New Ch'ŏngu Party and the Front For Reunification candidate each got about ~15% of the vote while ~10% went to the Juche Party. Kim’s approval ratings seem to have dropped though since 2011 when he first took office – back then independent polls showed his approval rating to be ~68-70%.
Additionally, Kim and his administration have come under criticism for disqualifying several popular opposition leaders who had a shot at winning the election mere weeks before the start of the vote on various charges including corruption, receiving funds from “foreign enemies” & other scandals. And although Kim dodged international anger by avoiding openly persecuting Churches and Christians he still banned the entirety of the increasingly-popular Christian Democratic Party on the grounds that most of its funding came from foreign sources (namely South Korea and USA)

In his reelection campaign Kim focused on his vision of modernizing North Korea, making it better-able to face the troubles and tribulations of the 21st century as well as the long-term goal of eventually peacefully reunifying the Korean peninsula.

So how do you guys feel about this latest Korean election? Myself, I feel that although Kim is a corrupt autocrat he is still a better choice than the nut-jobs that ran against him.

(OOC: In case you haven’t guest, in this DBWI rather than being a totalitarian dictatorship North Korea has at some point become a flawed democracy akin to the ones that arose in 1990s in Eastern Europe/ex-USSR. Have fun :))

The North Korean Space program has made great improvements under his leadership. They went from not having a single suborbital rocket, to a small satellite very quickley.

But then again, he might be going a bit optimistic with his plans!

Just a tad unrealistic?

I suppose this means the reunification talks will keep staggering (and I mean staggering) along. Even though the Chinese finally dropped their objections after accepting the proposed Yalu DMZ, there are still massive hurdles for both the north and the south to cross before we really see the light at the end of the tunnel.

So much for nuclear disarmament! Well there is always next time. Also do you think the North Korean judicial system is capable of handling the Kenith Bay trile? After all Amerophobia is high in North Korea, and he 'killed' his two Korean roommates.
