I don't know about you but I was a big fan of the sitcom The Jeffersons. The last episode of that show aired 30 years ago today.
The show's main character, George Jefferson was a black entrepreneur whose chain of dry-cleaning stores in New York City was so successful that he sold the business and moved his family to Atlanta and became the first black family to live in an all-white luxury apartment building. The show would win four Emmy awards for best situation comedy and one Emmy for best actor in a situation comedy (Sherman Hemsley as George Jefferson).
Norman Lear, the developer of the show, originally considered having the show set in Manhattan's Upper West Side before deciding to set the show in a southern city.
Had the show been set in New York City as originally planned, would it be as successful and how much longer would the show have lasted? And how would that have affected the supporting cast and story lines? (I believe that Jim Nabors would not have been cast as George Jefferson's neighbor if the show took place in NYC)
