DBWI The Iraq Iran conflict ends

In the wake of Irans Revolution, Iraq invaded and successfully took their oil fields.

This started the first Iran Iraq war which ended with Iraq using tons of poison gas, tanks, and machine guns. This started a conflict that has now entered its 40th year, with Persians and Arabs still fighting it out. While the west, sends strongly written letters at most.

Sucide bombings, gas, terrorist attacks, its been a war with attrocities on both sides, but what if the conflict had ended what would the world look like if this long standing conflict had ended? What would a world look like if there had been some kind of peace even an uneasy one between the two peoples?

do you mean the 40th year of one long war or 40th year of ongoing conflict with gaps of peace interspersed with wars, eg. 1988 represented the 40th year of the arab / israeli conflict

depends on who you ask, various insurgent groups have been fighting since day one, but the central Iranian government and the Iraqi government have had breif boughts of peace between wars, where both sides reload before the Iranians try to regain their lost lands again. Or Sadam tries to get more clay before his logistics get screwed again.

So honestly its kind of both.

Well, with them trying to gut each other, its certainly kept them and other actors in the region focused on each other, rather than, enemies abroad.

Great for the West. Not so great for the Iraqi and Iranian people.

No Iraq didn't take Iran's oil, although it caused considerable disruption.

Arab-Persian fighting essentially ended in '88. Iranians have recently participated in internal conflicts in Iraq and Syria but have done little actual fighting themselves.

OCC THis is a Double blind what if.....OCC

OOC: You do realize that an Iran-Iraq war going on continuously for 40 years is wildly improbable, right?

OCC think of it as being similar to the Irish troubles, or the conflict between Israel and palestine, where it just kind of drags on and on. OCC

The war has to end soon, even with lowering the military age to 10 they're running out of men. Both economies are being run by women either directly like Iraq or indirectly Iran. A cleric in Terran who spoke out against women flexing their economic muscle was publicly linched by a few thousand angry women.
