DBWI: The hand grenade that killed George W. Bush was a dud?

As we all know, on May 10th 2005, the assassin Vladimir Arutyunian threw a hand grenade at George W. Bush, killing him as well as Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili, as well as killing and wounding several innocent bystanders. So what if the hand grenade had been a dud, and never went off?

Obviously, President Cheney would not be President Cheney even now. Also, we'd still have diplomatic and trade relations with Russia, and the War of 2008 would be much much more different.

OOC: Just a note, if Dick Cheney became President on May 10th, 2005, he'd be out of office by January 20th, 2013, since he can't serve more than 10 years maximum. He can run for reelection in 2008, but that's his last constitutionally-allowed shot.

Unless he declined to run in 2008, but then ran as a former President in 2012, but I don't think that's what you were suggesting.

I can't help but wonder if George W might have handled some of the issues Cheney bungled a bit better - the Iraqi insurgency and counter surge, the housing market crash, Katrina, all those Congressional Scandals, etc etc. At the very least, I doubt Bush would have has a fatal heart attack after the 2007 Market Crash like Cheney did...

On the other hand, Vice-President Powell did marvelously for his brief time as President... wish he'd have run in 08, it would have spared us President Edwards...

What about pop culture - we all know a bunch of celebrities basically got black listed following their 'celebrations' following the assassination. Green Day, Seth MacFarlene, Jamie Foxx, among others - how might not making jokes about a recently murdered President had bettered their careers?
