DBWI: The Communists win in China

China is now one of the most powerful economies in the world and is a major regional leader, with one newspaper going as far as calling it 'the America of Asia', owing to it's political and economic weight.

But that success only came after the end of a bloody nineteen-year long Communist insurgency, which only froze for a short time during the Second Sino-Japanese War, only to start up again in 1946.

The Communists had been driven back from South Manchuria after a month-long battle at Spingjie. As the Nationalists reached Harbin, Lin Bao threw 100,000 conscripted factory workers into the path of the advancing Nationalist army, to little avail. The suburbs of Harbin, the gateway to the north, had been reached by the advancing Nationalist units by early June.

After a short, but intense battle, the main leadership of the Communist insurgency was arrested and summarily executed.

But what if Chang kai-Shek, for some reason, stopped his offensive and gave the communists enough breathing room to reorganize and counterattack, leading to a Nationalist defeat?

The Nationalist will retreat to taiwan. And looking at mao, he will not be that much competent. So china will be less richer.

The communists might be more aggressive with the Tibetans. OTL Chang (understandably) wanted to give the army some R&R after two civil wars and a brutal foreign invasion, and in the meantime the Tibetans signed a treaty with the newly independent Dominion of India that allowed the (highly experienced after Burma) Indian Army to garrison the plateau.

China would undoubtedly be, if not more powerful, then have a higher quality of life. Mao was a peasant leader, he was from and of the masses. Compared to Chiang's crypto-fascism he's a saint for China.

America gets more involved in east asia.

Theres always been an understanding between America and China that the Chinese take care of their backyard and that we only get involved when they need money/supplies/ or it would cause a diplomatic incident. Its like how when ever the russians get a little crazy with their retoric chinese troops move north and and american air craft carrier task force sails around until the russians calm down again.

Makes sense That Dominion Of India Got Tibet. They Lost Two Thirds of their population in War against japanese. The experience of Indian Army was bought in blood so to say.

Granted Britain Was Briefly Occupied by Nazi Germany after Succesfull Operation Sealion. I still dont know how they succeed And How the hell were they even Stopped only at HADRIAN WALL.

Nah man Afghanistan was India's reparations, Tibet was just Ghandi flexing his muscles and reminding the world why the Royals choose to set up shop in New Delhi rather than Ottawa when London fell.
