DBWI: Temüjin invades China

A Mongolian friend of mine said if Temüjin (OOC: Ghengis Khan) wasn't killed in 1206 just after uniting the Mongol tribes he would have gone on and invaded China and conquered a good part of it. Personally I think he had a few too many drinks. Could the Mongols have conquered a good part of China or is that pure ASB? If it did so how far could the Mongols have spread?

With enough time, rival powers of China might ally with the Mongols and try to invade China, but I don't see any changes to the status quo ITTL now. Maybe Mongolia might invade and annex Western Xia, or maybe even the Jin, but a full conquest can only be acheived with outside help.

The real question is, without the Song, who would have colonized Europe and the Eastern Continent? Maybe India. However, if you delayed the discovery of the Eastern Continent until, say, the late 1400s, the Mayans might have developed enough to fend off outside invasion and maybe take some coastal cities in Ireland later on.

And I wouldn't ignore the West African empires, like Ghana or its successors. Also, Ghana is close to the Eastern Continent, and they probably would have ended up in Mayaland if the Song hadn't gotten there first. I could also see them colonizing parts of France and Britain--they were actively involved in the European slave trade IOTL.

Temujin is still studied at various military academies from Andra Pradesh to Zanzibar for his mobility and tactics. He *might* have been able to take the Song under the absolute right circumstances but why on earth would he consider Muscowy? After the Byzantine Empire fell in 1401 and the Turks took Vienna in 1453 Europe took another Crusade to liberate the Balkans and eventually Anatolia, but it drained them. By the time Zhang He arrived on the Third Voyage he noted the sheer depopulation of military resources as the Iberians were busy in Cyraenica and the rest of Europe focused on Anatolia. They were on the cusp of industrialization when the Invincible Armada appeared in 1585 and took first the Emerald Island, then Anglica. While Iberia was able to colonize parts of the Eastern Continent(s, depending on who you ask) it is the Song who rule over half the world now. How it would look without the Southern Continent, Eastern Continent, or southern Africa is beyond me.

OOC: Damn, you beat me to it.
