Ever since the success of Godzilla (2008) with The Rock carrying the human role, the Monster genre has taken over box offices globally. Casting charismatic action stars in the lead role, along with the sheer amount of action and consistent crossovers has made the genre the most consistent high performing genre financially.
What if comic book movies based on super hero’s had that level of success. IMO, even though Iron Man was the only consistent high performer, I think The Avengers had that potential before a few last minute lawsuits gutted the movie and they spent a year reshooting an inferior script. Had Warner Brothers not pulled the plug on DC after the Justice League failed, that had potential with Wonder Woman and Shazam.
Are comic book movies just not movie material because they were designed for another media, unlike Godzilla, King Kong, Gamera, etc? And do Marvel and DC simply have the wrong type of cheese?
