Hey, what do you guys think would have happened if Disney had bought the rights to Star Wars ten years ago? Apparently some Disney executives felt there was serious untapped growth potential in the franchise and they were in negotiations with Lucas and had they done so they would have made additional movies, opened up the floodgates for additional books beyond what Zahn and Foster wrote along with TV shows (live action and cartoon), and maybe even built a fifth theme park in Florida based around the Star Wars universe. Part of their logic was they could tap into the nostalgia of people in their 40s and 50s who fell in love with Star Wars in 1977 and desperately wanted more.
Of course we all know what happened - they bought the rights to Harry Potter from JK Rowling for a king's ransom, made a fifth theme park in Florida based on that and have taken that franchise in all sorts of new directions (books, movies, TV shows, stage plays, toys, and of course the theme park).
I've always wondered what would have happened if Rowling had gone with Universal and Disney had picked up Star Wars instead (of course Universal had no interest in Star Wars).
