Created in 1947 the AK was built by Adam Karlson to be tough durable and put out lots of bullets. The armed services were initially skeptical of the new weapon but after putting it through a massive series of tests including burying it in mud and then shooting it the troops who used it loved the weapon.
It was then mass produced for the us military and used in Korea and Vietnam to great effect.
The soviet union decided they needed a weapon of their own and their engineers ended up creating the lighter and more finicky M16, a weapon designed in a committee that had quite a bad reputation amongst the Vietcong who used the weapons and other gurella groups who often were not able to give the weapons the kind of maninance they needed.
But what if the weapon designs were reversed how would history change if America made the M16 and the soviet union made the AK?
