DBWI: Some Random Peasant Girl Rallies the French during the 100 Years War

WI, during the Hundred Year War, some random French peasant girl (let's just call her "Joan") claims to have visions from God calling on her to drive the English out of France? Suppose also that the French king believes her and gives her command of the French forces. Suppose also that she then defeats the English, turning the tide of the war in favor of the French.

Is this at all a plausible scenario?

I think you put this in the wrong forum. I mean some random peasant girl rallying a nation and stoping England, the very same England that still rules Frace, is ASB.

God no. Why would the king of France listen to some peasant girl? And how would some peasant girl know how to defeat professional armies? Seriously, what have you been smoking?

Actually, there's one way it might work... suppose the king decides to use 'Joan' as a figurehead to rally the French around, while real soldiers do the fighting. 'Joan' could appear on a white horse before important battles to inspire the men. But again, you have to ask, just why would the king of France go to such trouble over a peasant girl?

I doant' no, I thin kthis is a very intersesting idea. Wy, this is exzactly wat teh Englis hwon't be expekting. Yuo all should just let him think thi sidea out b-fore makcing fun of it.

Yeah, I mean a more likely scenario is:
Peasant girl goes to military camp claiming visionso of God.
Peasant girl is raped by soldiers.
The end.
Not much more to it that that.

Uh.... That got to be the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Utterly ASB. Like some random girl being a "figurehead" is gonna help the Frenchies:rolleyes:

Best case scenario: The king of France is put into a mental asylum, while the assimilation of France is much more easier for the English due to the huge influx of deserters.

Worst case scenario: The poor girl gets raped AND the above happens.

I must concur, sexual roles were to ingrained for European women to even be allowed to fight save during some instances in the Crusades.

I will grant some crazy stuff has happened OTL, but you are pushing beyond reason with this.

The closest workable that xomes to mind is some common born priest doing what is described. Even that is strteching it but a Saint Jean as the savior of France is at lkast plausible.

Frankly what you propose would take an actual act of Gott.

Though I must say this is one of the more original French survival PODs I have heard. I prefer "Chevalier Triumphant" myself.

okay, 'figurehead' is the wrong word... I was thinking more that if (before she met the king) this 'Joan' had gotten some kind of following among the religious, maybe the king would make use of it... have her be a sort of icon, someone to dress up and use to inspire the troops about how God is on their side. Soldiers respond to some pretty weird things, why not a girl who claims to have visions? Meanwhile, commanders with real talent do the fighting. Of course, the first time the French lose a battle, the whole thing comes crashing down. Still, the French were desperate enough at various times to do something like that.

But yeah, it is all a bit ASB...

Even if the "French" (both sides were really French) win the war, what does it mean? Today France and England are the westernmost provinces of the Hapsburg Empire, I suppose. It was only the combined strength of the two that allowed them to hold off the Central European juggernaut later on...

Was the King married at this point? Maybe she becomes his lover, and she could rule as the Peasant-Empress. That'd be interesting... narodism in the dark ages.
