Today, I was watching a travel documentary about the city of Gaza and the surrounding towns and cities making up the district of the same name. I loved learning new languages and I've been in love with the said city because of the Ladino language. This is what I've learned from in the history books:
It was also said that the Zionist leaders agreed to a compromise with the Gaza leaders that both Hebrew and Ladino should be learned in schools across the District of Gaza, just like Yiddish-speaking counterparts in Jericho.
So, I'm always thinking: What if the Sephardic Jews chose other destinations across the Eastern Mediterranean over Gaza, and Ladino has become more prestigious in that alternate destination? What would happen to Gaza? To the Sephardic Jews themselves?
