DBWI: Schröder-Sarkozy relations

At the upcoming G8 summit, commentators are vivid about the alpha men club dealing there. Berlusconi, Blair, Schröder and newly elected Sarkozy. Blair is a shadow of himself and Berlusconi is rather the platinum version of a papagallo.

So it's just Schröder and Sarkozy left as valuable alpha men left. What do you think will the bonds of these two men develop? Schröder did well with Chirac, but Chirac did badly with Sarkozy, so I don't know...

The problem with both is that they are in a certain sense competitors. Neither is as devoted to the EU as their respective precedessors, and hence both have diplomatic initiatives going on elsewhere, often enough very much controversial initiatives - Schröder's and Putin's relations, for example. Hence, they are bound to eventually wilder in each other's territory, and Sarkozy may already try to woo over the Russians...
