We all know how how the famous Sultan of Egypt and Syria al-Aziz, after a succession struggle with his older brother, led the Campaign that would ultimately see the European Crusader states kicked out of Jerusalem and conquered the region. The possibility of him losing at the battle of in 1192 is often explored in alternate history, but I have a diffrent scenario for you, what if his father, the Sultan Salidin, hadn’t died during the Siege of Kerak in 1183. What would the effects of his survival be, how would this effect the course of the crusade, and what would some of the effects we could see on the wider world be?
