DBWI: Saint Muhammad’s “Q text” hasn’t been lost?

Many of his contemporaries spoke of Muhammad’s sect as a new religion, we just don’t know the true contents of his thoughts as the compilation of his revelations, the “Q” text, has been lost.

Unlike John the prester, Europe did establish relations with a Muhammadan sect in Arabia and allied with them against the “idolaters”. But we don’t know how much did the Muhammadans’ creed reflects Muhammad’s original teachings.

So, would a new religion be founded if the Q was preserved?

I doubt it. What we understand about his life, I am skeptical he could've pulled it off, or was interested in it. Maybe it would be a minor thing that would die off after a few centuries as Manichaeism continues to earn influence in the Middle East, becoming the dominate religion in the area of it does in OTL.

Regardless I hope the text is found one day, it would be an interesting look at the evolution of Arab Christianity.

Looking at the evolution of Christianity in the Arab kingdom of Egypt can give some insights to the region’s religious character. For instance, when Yūsuf I agreed to become a foederati client of East Rome he apparently had two wives as did many of his followers, as is stated in Sarofimus’ Chronicle. The practice died out in the face of pressure from the Bishop of Alexandria, but other traditions such as especial veneration of the Kaaba shrine in southern Arabia Felix persisted for centuries.
