Well, it would be logical for Georgians to request Russian overlordship. 2 decades of independence clearly proved that they are unable to govern themselves, as they slipped from being on of the richest Soviet regions to one of poorest. Some remote even-handed master would be good to make all those Mengrelians, Svans, Ajarians, Kahetians, Kartvelians etc. Americans were unwilling to commit seriously enough to play this role, but Georgia is more important for Russia than for any other player in the region, so they'll probably assume overlordship over the territory again.
P.S. Abkhaz and Ossetian separatists are probably having severe case of diarrhea now. It is very likely that Medvedev would pay for the newfound Georgian loyalty with Abkhazian hides and Georgia is much more valuable ally.
