DBWI Russia wins the great northern war of 1700–1721

The great northern war lasted 21 years, the russian tzar contested the Swedish domination of northern and eastern europe. The war was troubled for the Russian forces. Their Leader Peter the great was killed by a lucky bullet in the 4th year of the war. After him incompetent and corrupt leaders lead the russian and coalition forces into disaster after disaster. Poor logistics, leadership and bad luck plagued the russians and after 20 years of war the country broke and went into a period of revolution.

Sweden would maintain its domination of the baltic's and Russia was forced to reorganize, today the great northern war is mostly forgotten but what would have happened if the russians had won?

The war is forgotten? Maybe that's the case with you ignorant Meridians, but in Europe Charles XII is a household name. He just had another movie made about his life. In any case, Sweden probably wouldn't have formed the Scandinavian Empire eventually if Russia had stopped its ambitions. The Vasa are the second most prestigious house in Europe, behind the Hapsburgs of course. In any case, a Russian victory would also have serious implications for Ottoman Turkey. IOTL, Tsarina Anna the Great secured Russia's northern border with Sweden, and pushed south against the Turks with the help of the Hapsburgs; she would also go on to eventually ban serfdom. Giving up on northern expansion was a massive boon for Russia.

Sweden wouldn't have conquered a large part of what used to be Russia for one.The Russians lost a lot of territory, including Kola,Karelia and what used to be known as Novgorod.Peter's reforms wouldn't have been reversed by his son,at least too entrenched for the latter to reverse anyway. It took another fifty years before Peter's work was continued by his great-granddaughter Anna the Great.

OOC:Would Peter really be called 'Great' if he lost the war?The Tsarevitch hated Peter and seems to be aligned with the reactionaries,so the country would have been in total disaster because he died prematurely.

OOC: If Peter had lost the war, I highly doubt that he would be called 'Great.'

In regard to territory, Sweden would not have kept it's link to the White Sea, thus resulting in lost revenue from the whale oil trade, if Russia had won the war.

OOC:Vasa? Charles XII belonged to the Holstein-Gottop dynasty. Kristina was the last Vasa

OOC: In all likelyhood they don't. The area was Swedish before the war.

(OOC: I find it highly implausible that they wouldn't get the area they have otl now around st. petersburg, even if they had to trade karelia and kola for it somehow. It was just that much of a goal for them)

Does anybody know how the development of the "Russian mouth" area of the Baltic would have been if Russia had conquered more of Finland? (OOC: this is after the great northern war) Today the area is one of the most heavily militarized in the world.
