DBWI: Russia hadn't joined the central powers

Has we all know Russia joining the Central Powers played a major role in securing early victory for the Central Powers. But what if Russia had instead joined the Entente in the Great War and the Ottomans had joined the Central Powers instead?

Easy, have the "League of Three Emperors" fall apart.

Well, the Ottomans probably wouldn't have joined the Entente. And as such Czarisgrad would probably still be Istanbul. The Czar ruling both the Third Rome and the Second Rome came to form a major part of Russian Imperial identity.

We also probably wouldn't have seen Britain and Japan working together to contain Russo-German influence. So...probably no German-Japanese Indochina War in 1940-41, and probably no Japanese-allied Empire of Indochina as arose from that war OTL.

Heck, without that common cause, you might have had Japan and Britain coming to blows over British territory in the Far East. As opposed to OTL, where the Two Empires remain closely allied major powers.

But how would that come about? OTL they all have so much in common and so many shared and overlapping interests. Russo-Austrian cooperation kept the balkans largely peaceful through the tumultuous start of the 20th century, suiting each of them to suppress the dissident groups of their respective Empires.

It's almost ASB to suggest that autocratic Russia would find another Great Power (and it would have to be a Great Power) that would prop them up with loans and technology. What do you suggest, arch-republican France? That's so crazy, it'd have to be a hell of a POD to bring that about...

In politics, Russia had more to share with Austria-Hungary and Germany then Republican France and Liberal Britain.

The "Three Emperors" had a common interest to fight against the common leftist and nationalist forces opposing them than with Western Europe.

Wait Am I missing something?

DBWI - double blind what if.

A "what if" from an alternate timeline where a POD has already occurred. The discussion is about how to POD the ATL to make it closer to our OTL. The discussion is intended to flesh out how the ATL looks different from out OTL whilst referencing how things are different. Terms like OTL and ATL or IRL will be based on the different world's POV.

We might not have had National Populism under Balbo in Italy and Arnold-Spencer Leese in Great Britain appear, as well as France going red as a result of the Central Powers victory.

If France hadn't gone Red, what do you see it as? A continuation of the Third Republic? I mean that's possible and I suppose if the Central Powers hadn't won, the 3rd Rep wouldn't have been so completely discredited (no Paris Commune, fleeing of the government, short term secession of Brittany, etc). It was only after the chaos of the post-War years and the German's punitive occupation that the French Communist Party became so popular I suppose.
