As you all know, Japanese politics since the end of WWII have always been quite predictable, with the Japanese Socialist Party (JSP) having held power almost uninterruptedly.
Now, the JSP is actually a heavily factionalized party, including people of varied ideological sympathies, ranging all the way from social democracy to left-wing populism and nationalism, and even trotskyism, libertarian socialism and other currents of a more radical nature. However, we westerners find it strange that an otherwise democratic country may have a political that is so thoroughly dominated by one political party.
There have been several threads discussing the possibility of a centre-right Japanese party that might have come to share power with the JSP in a kind of european-styled two-party system. But what if we can take that a step further? Can we have a right-wing party achieve the same sort of dominance over post-war Japanese politics as the JSP did IOTL?
If so, how would this alternate Japan differ from our own?
