What if the Peace Talks in the fall of 1968 that ended the Vietnam war failed and Richard Nixon was elected the 37th President of the United States instead of Hubert Humphrey, who was arguably only able to pull off his narrow victory due to the last minute success of the Peace Talks?

Nixon lose 72.I think this butterfly's Reagans presidency and muskies presidency.
Humphrey was a great president even if it was one term.

I agree, Humphrey was a good President, and the mid-late 70s would've been so much better had he beaten Reagan in 72 (it's not impossible, Reagan only won very narrowly). The Damage he did in 73 and 74 with the GOP controlling both houses of congress (although it was a coalition of Southern Democrats and Goldwater/Reaganites in Congress that did the Damage) was a disaster. Not even the midterms in 74 and electing Muskie in 76 was enough to reverse it, as even Muskie lost in 1980 to Howard Baker due to the Domestic situation not improving. Nixon might not have been found out either, remember that JFK infidelities weren't found out by the Public until years later. So long as Nixon's term was better than Reagan's and Muskie's, he could've conceivably won in 1972 so long as the economy recovered from the '69-70 recession.

The recession of '69-'70 was only a recession by definition, it wasn't that bad. GDP only fell about a half percent. In actuality, it was more like a hiccup. OOC: I mean this in OTL, as well as ATL.
