OOC: He entered to late; not so much parachuted in, but from my understanding the perception was that he won on the backs of favourite sons.
I suppose he was motivated by Kennedy's support for Israel, as seen during the 1973 War, when he openly supported Israel against Egypt and Syria.

There was a couple indication. I read a bit more into this. Apparent, Sirhan saw that Kennedy had pledged to give bombers to Israel, (which he did eventually approve), and he had also seen a documentary of him visiting Israel. This was in his diary, which was found in his Jerusalem apartment.

Ronald Reagan? I'm surprised you forgot his name. He hosted that talk show on ABC and later the Fox Network, in the 80's and early 90's.

Oh yeah. Actually ,ironically enough given the topic, he ran against Nixon in 1968. After the landslide in '76, he left politics, and went into talk shows.
I wonder who would've won in 1976 (OOC: Did we establish he got elected that year?) had Kennedy been shot.
Hubert Humphrey? He came pretty close to winning in 1972, but decided not to run in 1976 because, like most potential candidates, he saw Nixon approval ratings and assumed the GOP was unbeatable.
