"Omg. As a rational Republican voter, I can't possibly take it, when President Cotton hurts my feels, hurry! flee to the Soy cave."

Mccarthy did what was necessary at the time, I wouldn't support limiting habeas corpus under any circumstances but he had no choice. That is why he did it. But if you're so angry about freedom where were you when President Brown proposed an assault weapons ban.

Derailing the discussion with your baseless claims and lame insults does nothing to contribute to the discussion the original poster mentioned. It's blatantly hypocritical to say "I support unconditional habeas corpus" and then say you are okay with limiting it in the same sentence.

Well there's no denying that Poor Ford was totally screwed in that Regard after he became President but actually he darn close at beating Reagan but well we already know how it goes
(OTL: Connally became president after Nixon as his VP. I mentioned it in an early post.)

Have you heard of a little thing called context? Mccarthy needed it to clamp down on those who would destroy freedom. Don't misinterpret my arguments or a won't waste time with you.

Back at it again with the whole McCarthy approach like I don't understand why you think he's a good president. It was a damn shame though when Ike didn't run and we had to deal with McCarthy

We needed a fighter to deal with the Communists and he was it. He was a very tough guy. I loved it when he said he would slap the commies in the backside and kick them 200 years back. I don't give a shit if it wasn't politically correct. It was cool.

Let's turn the conversation back to Reagan. He was a liberal Democrat, but famously his First Lady Nancy was a Republican. This is the only time in US history where the President and First Lady came from different parties. Despite their political disagreements, the Reagans had a happy marriage. In fact Nancy's politics were an asset to her husband, who was popular with many Republicans and independents because of his marriage to a member of the GOP. This probably contributed to his landslide wins in 1976 and 1980.

Perhaps a suitable POD to make Reagan a Republican is that during their courtship, Nancy pushes Ronald to the right. The Los Angeles Democratic Party nearly refused to support Reagan's Congressional run in 1952. Maybe if the Dems reject Reagan, and if Nancy is able to exert enough influence on her husband, Ronald would've become a Republican.

It revealed allot about Nancy Reagan's character when she decided to openly endorse Reagan's opponent in 1980, Scoop Jackson. Imagine supporting your husband's opponent to get your man out of a job.

(@Amadeus @EbolaMan131. How good was my impersonation of a hypothetical conservative troll from an alternate reality.)
