DBWI: Republic of Prussia not created after World War II

As the Republic of Prussia approaches the 63rd anniversary of its nationhood, it can look back at its role as a buffer against Communist expansion.

As the most militarized state in continental Europe, the Prussians made significant contributions in the Korean War and the coalition effort to remove the Taliban from power in Afghanistan thus bringing democracy to that nation.

What if Prussia was never created after World War II? There had suggestions that Germany be divided into two countries, a Communist east and a democratic west. Fortunately, such a proposal ended up in the waste basket of history.

How would they have managed that? By the autumn of '45, Germany still had a lot of fight left in it and if it weren't for the coup from the Prussian Cabal, the War would have continued for probably another year or two, (the War in the East was all but won anyway).

Anyway, if the Prussians hadn't deposed Hitler and secured their own independence while the rest of the Reich fell to Western occupation, then its likely they too would end up as part of avowedly pacifist German state that stretches from Schleswig to Carinthia, (a state whose regime is also 60-odd years old, and, I'd argue, seeing as it was more forcibly de-Nazified, is a much better example of a liberal democratic state than the neighbouring Prussia - even if they don't have an army to send on foreign adventures).

The idea of a Communist East Germany is an interesting idea and would probably end up butterflying away the Korean and Afghan wars. Implanting Communism in the land of Marx would be a huge propaganda victory for Stalin and would probably allow him to avoid being deposed by the more expansionist Trotskyites.

Well the 1999 Textbook Crisis would have certainly been avoided. We all remember how Poland, Belgium, France, Great Britain, the Soviet Union and Israel protested the Prussian textbook justification of World War II as "liebensraum" (needing living space). You even had one historian claiming that Western figures of 6 million Jewish deaths were "greatly exaggerated"....

Just remember that while Germany under Soviet control has been continually forced to acknowledge its genocidal roots with its Anti-Fascist Codes of 1948, many of the former leaders within the Nazi Party were able to assert themselves as early as 1954. Until Prussia makes a public apology for its actions, many will avoid Prussia like the plague....

You can think whatever you want of the republic of Prussia. True, they have been known for controversial statements, but without them the Soviets would have reached the Rhine and occupied all of Austria and Germany. Think about how Austria was split in two until 1988! The Soviets wanted all of Europe and would have marched as far as they could.

Ok, I know it isn't fair because you don't speak german but it's "Lebensraum". "Liebensraum" would mean directly translatet "Loving space" or "Loving room".

Acctually it would be much better if the Germans had been hippies and not Nazis and only wanted to spread love around.;)

OOC: Gah. Its pretty annoying to have your contribution to a DB completely ignored. I established that the USSR was defeated on the Eastern front and that the rest of Greater Germany was united into a pacifist Western-allied nation.

The problem with the Prussian policies since its inception is its unwillingness to admit that it participated in one of the worst acts of genocide in the 20th century. To make matters worse you had its Defense Minister Otto Skorzeny actively aid the Egyptians during the Suez Canal Crisis in 1956 and arm the Arab forces during the SiX-Day War against Israel in 1967. It wasn't until 1985, that Prussia even acknowledged Israel as a "legitimate state"....
