DBWI: Really, has anyone been impressed by the Beijing Olympics?

Because I surely haven't, nor has anyone I've talked to. Even the media is largely unanimous. Forcing the opening actors to wear diapers and denying them the restroom? Changing out the lead singer because she wasn't cute enough, and putting a lip-syncher in her place? The arbitrary rules for all the female 'volunteers', who had to be judged in the nude and have their proportions measured?

And that's not even touching on the mass relocations to make way for the games and get the 'uglies' off the streets, the total shutdown of the economic heart to get around the polution epidemic, and all the arranging for a picture perfect Olympics...

That's the kind of authoritarianism you'd expect from Western Europe in the 40's and the US in the 70's, not from the perportadly democratic Republic of China. Was anyone really sold?

Oh, it would be a mistake to call China Democratic. I agree with you, the show that China put on was only a mask to hide it's true uglieness, which is it's leaders. The only good thing about the games are that they got the world tlaking about human rights in China. Unfortunetly, now that the games are over, the world will ignore them.

I wonder what a boycott would have done?
