DBWI: Reagan Survives

What would've happened if President Reagan somehow survives his March, 1981 assassination at the hands of John Hinckley. How does his Presidency go? Does he win re-election?

Well, The special relation between US and UK wouldn't have been eroded the failure of Thatcherism made President Rockefeller reconsider one of his agenda.

I think he would be popular enough to win reelection in a landslide . I mean it prob wouldn't be like the nailbiter election that was 84.

His tax plan probably would have messed us up, glad that Bush only passed that watered down version of it.

Reagan was so much more extreme than Bush, he would surely lose reelection in 1984. Then the Democrats would probably never have moderated like they did in OTL; an extremist reactionary like Reagan surely would have awakened the labor movement.

Nahh, Reagan was popular and revitalized the GOP's base after Watergate became their Chicago. He'd likely win against pretty much any candidate since it was during his and Bush's time in office the effects of stagflation finally came under heel; the US' economy was shaky but recovering by election time. He'd probably have been a decent to good president depending on how he handles the collapse of Cuba, the Warsaw Pact, and the USSR, though I'd rate him as pretty bad domestically. Not that communism is completely dead considering China, a couple of the stans, and Yugoslavia are still doing fine, and you have the messes that are North Korea and Albania to deal with too. Still, Bush presided over the end of an era and the beginning of the new.
