DBWI: President Lindbergh doesn't cancel nuclear program

so, last night I was thinking of possible PODs, and I remember from my ww2 elective that back in '41, President Lindbergh decided to end the atom bomb project he himself had advocated for in the senate in '35! It was just about a year from fruition IIRC, and just a few months before we joined the war. I was thinking that we could probably have had the bomb ready before the war ended, instead of by 1948 otl. I was wondering what you all thought could happen if this occurred.

We probably wouldn’t have had to slog up Japan in 1945 and amass nearly 2 million Allied deaths and well over 9 million Japanese deaths. Hell, Japanese towns are still struck with bubonic plague today! I’d rather live in Korea then in that...

That allied figure is massively inflated US KIA numbered just under 600k while those from Commonwealth units numbered well under 100k

China lost a lot of troops. The Chinese jumped at the chance to supply troops for the invasion of Japan and get some payback against the Japanese.
Their casualty rate started to drop after unofficial help from American and Commonwealth forces.
I wonder without that unofficial help on the squad level what the Communists have won the Chinese Civil War?
I can just imagine how crazy. Could he have gotten. When the end was near the Communists quit killing more of their own soldiers than the nationalists were paranoid attempts to keep the Army together.
Mao was turned over to the nationalist by his own troops for the reward and a pardon. They were quoted as saying " if the reward was a little smaller they would have just shot him"
They did rough him up a bit before they turn him over.
