DBWI: President Hoover

After Coolidge's announcement that he would not be running for re-election in 1928 three major candidates emerged for the Republican nomination: Secretary Herbert Hoover, Governor Frank Lowden and Senator Charles Curtis. Although Hoover was initially a front-runner but his poor performance in the primaries and a grudge held by one of the party bosses eventually led to the party selecting Curtis for nomination.

So, what if Hoover preforms better in the primaries or Curtis withdraws? How does the Great Humanitarian deal with the Great Depression? Can he hooverize the economy? I doubt he can do worse than Curtis.

I always find it ironic that those same party bosses tried to persuade Hoover to run in 1932, knowing Curtis wouldn't win.

Anyway, had Hoover been in office in 1929 I doubt the Great Depression would have been anything other than ordinary. Not only was he known for his Humanitarian work, but as a former businessman he knew how that side of things worked. Basically I think Hoover could have been the write man at the write time.
This may well unfortunately butterfly away Roosevelt's presidency, or at least his run in 1932 for 2 reasons. Firstly, if Hoover is seen to be fixing the problem, he may wait, secondly, we know that Hoover ended up in FDR's administration and the 2 of them were friendly since the Wilson days. So who's the democratic nominee in 1932 ITTL and does Hoover run again in 1936?
