DBWI: President Gore doesn't win

As we all know, President Gore was among the greatest Presidents of our time - organized international coalitions that liberated Libya and Iraq from dictators, ratified the Kyoto Protocol, and saved Social Security for generations to come. But I have to wonder - what if George W. Bush had won? I know he ran as a non-interventionist, so how would the world look with Saddam Hussein and Muammar Gaddafi still in power? Would he have been able to save Social Security?

(OOC: Yes, Gore would have intervened in Iraq, it was literally part of the Democratic platform in 2000 that Saddam should be removed from power.)

Just to play Devil's Advocate, many would argue that Gore's decision to base the invasion of Iraq off false intelligence was an unconscionable act of deception that set a dangerous precedent and undermined the basic integrity of the American presidency. Further, John McCain's upset victory in 2004 means that Gore's political legacy is a bit more mixed - although he did manage to accomplish much on domestic issues. The fact is that Gore couldn't overcome his poor campaign skills or the mild recession that occurred from 2001 to 2003. I would say that Gore was an above average President, but not the greatest ever.

As for Bush, he lost in large part because he was a political bumbler. I can't imagine that would serve him well as Commander in Chief, and I doubt that he would do any better than Gore. The Social Security deal of 2003 probably wouldn't have come about, and without Gore's support Kyoto is dead in the water.

Yes, but Iraq and Libya are stable democracies now thanks to Gore and McCain. And there's no evidence that Gore deliberately lied. Everything indicates that he thought that Saddam had WMDs.

gore also help slowdown climate change a huge amount by actually enforcing the Kyoto proctol and investing in green energy. He saved our asses. Fun fact he also donated a large amount of money to Pleistocene park which has slowed down permafrost melting in the area which could have doomed us all

He may not have deliberately lied, but it would seem likely that he deliberately ignored intelligence reports that contradicted the assertion that Saddam actually had WMDs. We now have the INR intelligence reports that say it was highly unlikely Baathist Iraq possessed nukes.

Nonetheless, Gore made a political decision that has given the neocons free room to incite Iran and spark another war in the Middle East (just as President McCain when he took office). And although Iraq II was carried out in a multilateral fashion, Gore did considerable damage to America’s prestige in the world when we all found out that Saddam did not posses WMDs.

Without a doubt, Gore has had the best post-presidency since Carter and John Quincy Adams. Even the liberals who criticized him on foreign policy (including Howard Dean, who tried to primary Gore in '04) have praised his environmental initiatives. If Gore had lost in 2000, I doubt that he would've been as successful. A former Vice-President doesn't have the same clout as an ex-President, so his efforts probably wouldn't have gotten as far.

OOC: I don't find removing Saddam from power anywhere in https://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/documents/2000-democratic-party-platform.

OOC: In exactly what section of the platform, is it?

But would Gore really go through with a full ground invasion or would he simply have continued Clinton's policy of supporting Iraqi opposition groups and occasional aistrikes?
OOC: We would likely see Gore pushing for weapons inspectors to go in. If they're allowed in, Gore puts together an international coalition to remove Saddam on the grounds that he committed genocide against the Kurds, possessed chemical weapons in the past, and had ties to terrorist organizations (not Al Qaeda, but Saddam tried to have President George H. W. Bush assassinated via car bomb when he visited Kuwait, as an example). If they're not allowed in, the coalition goes in and removes Saddam for the aforementioned reasons as well as the fact that he refused to comply with requests to allow inspectors into the country. Reconstruction of Iraq goes much more smoothly because Gore actually plans out how to rebuild Iraq after removing Saddam, which Bush never did.

This would mean FPJ then Loren Legarda does not become president in 2004 in the Philippines, Loren Legarda is a Friend of Al Gore....Gloria Arroyo has no chance of second term due to that..

Loren Legarda became president in 2005 after the death of FPJ.

I wouldn’t say Gore saves social security per day, but he did lay ground work for them. The GOP and McCain took a hit when the Recession hit and after McCain won in 2008, their fiscal policies made things worse and that allowed for more leftist candidates to dominate the Dems, leading to Feingold winning the presidency in 2012 and 2016
