DBWI: President-General Finley

OOC: For a little background. I’m basing this off of a map I made recently where the American Revolution never happened while the Monarchy relocates there after Britain becomes a republic. What we’ll mainly be discussing is President-General Finley who is regarded as a Theodore Roosevelt type figure. He led this TL's America in the 1860’s and developed this weird Manifest Destiny/British fan-boy hybrid ideology. I’m hoping this thread will lead to something interesting and have a little fun while doing it.

IC: What are your thoughts of President Finley? Without a doubt he is certainly one of the most complex and dynamic figures in American history right up there with Washington, Hamilton, Galloway, and the rest. Many (myself included) regard him as a great man who guided our Empire through uncertain times. He was the one lead us victoriously against the Columbians in the second war and brought emancipation to the slaves. He laid the foundations for a powerful far reaching military and is known as the father of American industry. Unmatched in his successful Domestic and Foreign Policies, he single handedly changed American politics forever. Though, like all great men, he is not without controversy. Naysayers call him an imperialist fat old man who abused the Imperial constitution. He was a bully to South American countries using the Adams-Fox Declaration as an excuse. Some also say he was an oppressor to the working-class. And not to forget his alleged affair with Princess Silvia which is still being debated today. However I feel that these arguments are unfounded and need to be treated with the reality of the time that he lived in and not by modern standards. In short, just because he did things that you may disagree with doesn't make him any less of a great man.
