DBWI President Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln who was President Seward's Attorney General, until he was appointed Chief Justice in 1864 was Seward's main competition for the 1860 Republican nomination. What if he got the nomination and was elected, He was known as a moderate with excellent political skills. Could he have struck a deal to avoid the war?

I don't think Lincoln could have avoided the war, but I think he could have managed it better then Seward did.

No, the war was inevitable since the Compromise of 1848. Neither Lincoln, nor Seward, nor any other Republican, Whig, or Democratic canidate could stop the war.

I don't see how he would have made things any different. He does seem like a cool person though from what little I know of him; I feel like he would have been one of the better US Presidents.

It's all possible, though I think Lincoln would have done an equally horrible job holding together the country.
Sure, Seward had some political chops, but he'd have been more in place with the Union Presidents(early 1800s) during the times of frontier excursions rather true war.
This Lincoln guy might have screwed up even worse, I mean he may have instigated the war at Sumter. Then again maybe he could have preserved the country as it was, but I think once the states wanted to go you couldn't stop them

6th Chief Justice of the United States

Abraham Lincoln as the 6th Chief Justice of the United States and was seen as a complete change from his predessor pro-slavery Roger B. Taney, who had died in office.
With one of Lincoln's first acts as Chief Justice was to admit John Rock as the first African-American attorney to argue cases before the Supreme Court.

He supported Chase through out his second term and supported Republican President, General Benjamin Butler, who had been a find general, especially after taking over from Usyless Grant after he was shot during campaigning in 1868 by a confederate sympathist.

It was sad to see him unsuccessful effort to secure the Republican nomination for the presidency in 1876. They say he was passed over because of his stance in favor of voting rights for black men.

His death on February 15, 1889, three days after his 80th birthday, was the day America lost on of its finist Chief Justice.
