DBWI: Poland stayed Catholic?

The question of the day is, do you think Poland could've stayed Catholic? I know there are a few minority Catholic populations but they're pretty hard core Lutheran/Protestant. How would that affect their relationship with Germany and the rest of Europe?

Perhaps if the Catholic Church in Poland wasn't so thoroughly persecuted by the USSR, it could survive, though the wave of evangelicals descending on Poland after the Iron Curtain fell was pretty impressive. Honestly, it was astonishing how fast Poland went from being an atheist state into one of the most fervent evangelical nations out there.

Oh, wait, you meant a PoD before 1900... Well, maybe if during the occupation of Rome, the Pope moved his residence to Poland, Catholicism might have a larger following there? I know there was one Polish noble who could have become Pope back in the day, and Poland's reputation as a confluence of religions might protect the Pope from the worst of anti-Catholic sentiment.

Well then we certianly wouldn't have had the Polish-Lithuanian-Prussian Commonwealth. It'd just remain the Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth, the religious differences would be too much. I could see them forcibly converting Ducal Prussia to Catholicism though. Or maybe Scandinavia would take an interest in nabbing it for themselves.

OOC: the Pope is forced to flee Rome before 1900, and yet the USSR still exists, as well as the Iron Curtain. Seems legit.

OOC: What, just what?

Ok this doesn't make any sence at all. This is pre-1900, not post 1900 and also I don't see how the polish catholic church could be destoyed in an POD after 1900 anyway.

...Guys can we ignore this post for the sceanario? It makes no litteral sence logically or where it is.

IC: Well I'm no expert but I presume if Poland hadn't gone protostant than they probably wouldn't had been able to be as centralised as they were. The amount of church land taken by the crown really helped in the battle against the Sejim and the high nobility in establishing the Polish state as it was for a long time.

Then we could see Silesia as a part of Poland later on instead of it being independent right now, Silesia is a bastion of Polish Catholicism now...

When the Protestant Union in Bohemia under Friedrich and his General Christian von Anhalt defeated the Catholic league the fate of the Catholic Habsburgs were sealed. As most of the HAbsburgs lands leaned to the Protestant side it was only Logical they pleaded to Firedrich to become their new sovereign.

Maybe if the League had won the battle of the White Mountain Bohemia and the rest of the HAbsburgs German stay catholic the Reformation would NOT spread to Poland.

Reformation would have not prospered in Poland if Barbara Radzwil died earlier...

Poland? Solidly Catholic?
Ha!

Not calling this ASB, as I'm sure it's possible, somehow, maybe.

But... Poland? The land with 8 million Jews? The homeland of Socinianism? the hotbed of religious liberalism?

Hard to see.

A Catholic Poland will be a bigger Silesia, which is where the Polish catholic clergy moved their center.
