DBWI: Phantom of the Opera succeeds

IRL, we all know that Phantom failed miserably on Broadway (closing on opening night) and shook up Andrew Lloyd Webber so badly that he never wrote again and died in 1996. I'm wondering, what would have happened has the show been a hit? Would it beat out Into the Woods for Best Musical? Would it have prevented the growth and success of the pop musical? Any thoughts?

My wife and I likely would have gone to see it, as it opened to much fanfare and received a tremendous nation-wide entertainment media build up.

perhaps they never make the Movie starring Gerald Butler:rolleyes:...

or....maybe it speeds up the adaption ala, "Rocky Horror Picture Show/Rocky Horror Show"
