DBWI:Peyton Manning to the Colts?

Today we got the sad news that after almost 20 years Peyton Manning has retired from the NFL.

What what if that has always interested me is if the Colts had taken Peyton Manning number 1 back in 1998 instead of the infamous Ryan Leaf.

Do you still think he would of won those 2 titles in Indianapolis and then would jetted off to the Houston Oliers like OTL?

I dont know the Colts did not really have the D or running game that the Chargers had. One effect is I doubt San Diego would of got that awesome downtown stadium and convention area they have now.

I mean with out San Diego winning and getting the new football stadium built next to Petco which then lead to the new Arena which got the Clippers back to San Diego.

Don't remind me that, as we(thanks to god) the cardinals never give leaf a got grade(and we did need a qb too at the time) we trade that pick and the shock of horror what we could have get...

Exactly. After the bait and switch that Petco was, there was no way San Diego would ever vote to fund a new stadium. It burned all the goodwill the citizens. It would have been impossible to get that passed on the ballot.

But then Manning-lead San Diego three-peated Superbowls in '04,'05, AND '06, and came within a hair of a fourth in '07. "Martyball" became the standard by which all other coaches have been measured ever since.

So yeah, unless you think Ryan Leaf could have done all that, no. None of that would have happened without some other miraculous godlike intervention.

I hear they just wanted to put a new stadium in Mission Valley, but the team's success convinced the fans to vote for the stadium anyway knowing full well it wasn't the best deal economically.

Absent a Super Bowl winner in San Diego, you can forget it. Spanos either caves and builds in Mission Valley or turns into a colossal asshole and moves the team. I wonder where to - maybe Vegas?

Of course, by that logic, Peyton Manning saved football in San Diego. I wonder if he could have done the same in Indy. I mean, the city was just giving Irsay a hard time about the RCA Dome; he had no choice but to do what the Oilers almost did and pack up for Nashville. Too bad for Indy faithful he did; Aaron Rodgers really turned around the Nashville Vipers.

I reallly thought Michael Vick was gonna turn the franchise around until that fatal car accident.
