DBWI: Pete Best fired from the Beatles

I recently purchased Peter Brown's book The Love You Make: An Insider's Story of the Beatles on Kindle.

I read a chapter in which the Beatles on August 16, 1962 were this close to replacing its drummer Pete Best with Richard Starkey. Cooler minds prevailed and Best remained in the band.

Would the Beatles have been as successful with Starkey in the band?

From what I've seen of his work with the Hurricanes, he was definitely as good as Best at drumming.

But, his ego wasn't anywhere as big as the other Beatles, he was willing to let Storm lead the band most of the time. Instead of a four-way battle of egos with OTL, it would have been more like three and a half. Maybe the Beatles would have lasted a little longer, instead of breaking up in 1974. :)))

If Starkey had a better voice than Best maybe my childhood wouldn't have been traumatised by the awful narration on the Thomas The Tank Engine TV series! (yes, I know butterflies would probably mean Starkey wouldn't get the offer Best got but still - Pete was bloody awful)
