DBWI:Our future predictions never come true?

OOC: This is set in 1950

IC: Looking through the Popular Mechanics magazines the other day at the store and I saw a copy of what life would be like in the year of 2000 or 2010. It interest me and I bought it and read the whole thing. When I got done I wondered, what if none of these things came true and maybe only a few of them ever did? How might people react?

OOC: Here is the link to the article

I dunno, except for this:

OOC: 1950? Sorry to say this, but this DBWI would make more sense if set in 2000, or the present day, perhaps, looking backwards.(no offense)

IC: Well, I can say this: the Soviet Union might not collapsed in a flurry of successor states.....China wouldn't be the world's #1 superpower.....Japanese companies wouldn't own half of all stock in the U.S.....the Southwest wouldn't be 75% Mexican.....and we wouldn't have trans-national monorail networks either(nothing wrong with the latter two things, though, of course ;))

And we probably wouldn't have had to face 1.9*C worth of average temp rises since 1950, either: I was just a little kid when the last big heat wave happened in back in '94 but I don't ever want to have to live thru a near-130 degree July day in Dallas ever again; our A/C almost broke down twice. :(

On the other hand, I'd certainly miss the cleaner air.....and who doesn't like candy made from used linens? :D

OOC: Sorry about that. I decided to make it 1950s so that we pretend to be people from the time and see how they would have gotten it wrong.

IC: although I do believe sometimes in the future we should have a portable phone that acts llike a mini computer that can watch videos, send messages, look up any information, view stocks, and play games all from one small little device, and finally the device will have no buttons. How plausible will this device be?
