DBWI: Operation Valkyrie failed

okay I say the movie "Valkyrie" the other day and I was wondering, what if it failed and I mean totally failed, like they were not even able to kill Hitler? I mean sure that did have plans for what to do if Hitler survived, but considering how close it came to failure in OTL that if Hitler had survived the blast, that it would have failed. How much worse would Post war Germany be? would there have even been a Germany?

Have you seen the scrapped 'Morganthau Plan' that the Americans were proposing? Germany would have been radically different, had Hitler lived and the Allies taken him out. I could see some show trials in a big German city like Nuremburg, as well, along with longterm western occupation of Germany.

It certainly wouldn't be in the position it is today. Did you see those plans they had to give Prussia to Poland? And all of Silesia? And Pomerania of all areas?

Anchluss wouldn't have been allowed, that's for sure. Frankly, I don't see the America doing as well the Cold War, because the Soviet Union would probably annex or set up puppet regimes in the territories it conquered here.

Well Jon Silverman, (who played Claus von Stauffenburg in that film), probably wouldn't be around for one thing. I remember seeing in an interview that his fathers' family came to the states from Nazi-occupied Poland. Perhaps in a Valkyrie-less TL they would have ended up in one of those death camps?

Man, that'd SUCK. He's my favorite actor! Have you seen him in "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" or "Babylon 5"? He's a very diverse actor!

I say it would be better had hitler survived,Germany would have surrendered unconditionally intstead of Europe today, being dominated by a militaristic super power.Probably would have been less support for the USSR as they benefitted greatly from their anti-german stance while NATO was seen as a cowardly appeaser who was willing to deal with the Nazis just to knock out Russia.

but the Valkyrie people weren't Nazis, not even close, they stopped the death camps for crying out loud, and apologized for the holocaust

If Hitler had survived and the Nazis remained in power, the war would have obviously ended within a year (18 months at most) and resulted in the total destruction of Germany. But what would have happened then? My guess is that the Soviets and the Western Allies would have quickly fallen out with each other in the absence of a common foe, and we would shortly have seen yet another war for the spoils of Europe.

As it was, with the combined might of the Western Allies and the restored German Republic, the Soviets lacked the strength to move farther into Europe than they did IOTL. So, if you ask me, thank God Stauffenberg didn't fail!
