DBWI North Korea doesn't collapse

1991, a famine proved to be the final straw for the people of north korea, due to a series of mishaps the north korean government fell and north korea collapsed. Government even at the local level fell apart, over 20 years later that region of the world has changed.

But what would have happened if the kims were able to maintain their power what would korea look like if the collapse did not happen?

Maybe Korea would be stronger. From the bloody battles with KPA, Seoul and other locations on the DMZ getting shell to Hell by the KPA, and the years and money putting in fixing the North, things would be better.

South Korea--which was already well on its way to becoming a true first-class economic superpower in 1991 at the time of North Korea's collapse, unfortunately had to divert resources originally intended for economic growth to take care of the remains of North Korea--effectively giving Japanese companies a huge reprieve from economic competition.

It's only now that the Korean Republic can now finally become a competitor to to Japan economically, though you have to admit you can ride a high-speed Korea Train Express (KTX) train from Busan all to way to the Korea-China border at Sinuiju, where you connect with the China Rail High-Speed (CRH) network at Dandong.

I don't think they'd be able to maintain North Korea for much longer. Kim Il-Sung's son Kim Jong-il seems like he would've been an utterly crazy dictator. You could already see the younger Kim's craziness that helped caused the collapse of North Korea anyway, imagine that guy in charge. I don't buy it, I think cooler heads in the North Korean military would have stepped in to stop it.
