DBWI: No Universal Health Care

I don't see how the US could possibly hold out on UHC once Canada (1960s IIRC?) gets it, it would just make no sense. It's really been such a no-brainer in retrospect that I can't even begin to imagine what it might have looked like -- maybe the left's horror stories are true, and we'd have people dying of silly things like pneumonia just because they couldn't pay, or worse, having to choose between financial solvency and life. Then again, maybe libertarian guys are right, and it might... somehow... bring down prices and waiting time.

Agreed. Even Nixon was in favor of this.

It could have happened though. I mean part of the conservative backlash came in the 60's when President Humphrey attempted to crackdown on discrimination in the south. The dixiecrats, if they hadn't been promised local control could have formed a coalition with pro-business Republicans to oppose it.
