DBWI: No Taiwanese occupation of the Ryukyu Islands

What would happen if, instead of annexing the Ryukyu Islands after their expulsion from the Chinese mainland, the RoC had relinquished control of them to the US along with the rest of their occupation zone in the Japanese Home Islands, or some other state-of-affairs arises that prevents the RoC from occupying them in the first place?

How would this affect Taiwanese-Japanese-US relations and geopolitics in the Far-East, as well as any other significant consequences you can think of?

Well, we wouldn't have seen the mass revival of the Okinawan language, that's for sure (The Taiwanese were dead set in making the Ryukyus as different from mainland Japan as possible)

It's interesting to consider the effects on Sino-Japanese relations. The Japanese were pretty miffed at the action, which led to the thawing of relations between them and the mainland. Maybe Japan would have joined EATO instead of being an unofficial member through the U.S. alliance (the "postwar Bakumatsu"). Though maybe not, the Koreans and others probably wouldn't have wanted the heirs to the country that subjugated them, to be part of the alliance.

The Nationalists were pretty divided in their attentions between Taiwan and Ryukyu. Having all that territory gave them bases, but spread their military around. Wonder how that would have affected exile Chinese culture, maybe without such a commitment their government wouldn't have been so paranoid about left-behind Japanese on one hand and crypto-communists on the other, maybe there wouldn't have been martial law for so long.
